HAY Petit Standard Chair
Geometric precision drove the development of Petit Standard Chair (2020). Designer Daniel Rybakken wanted to create a chair whose legs didn’t bow out awkwardly to accommodate stacking. What resulted was a chair engineered with six aluminum joints at the top, middle, and feet of the chair that connect durable steel tubes at precise angles to both provide support for the sitter with the added function of stacking. Its bent plywood seat and seatback are pitched and curved to encourage an ergonomic posture while its seat features a waterfall edge for added comfort. The finished design pays homage to famed designer Jean Prouvé’s Standard Chair (1934), which features similar geometric proportions.
